I found the first half of this video quite relevant to Chapter 10 of our text. It delves into the history and power of Google. However, halfway through, the clip jumps into a conspiracy theory--one that I'm still unconvinced about. Sure, Google has a significant amount of control. I'm sure they collect user-data in a number of ways, but to say that this was their "master plan" and their intent all along is a bit far fetched. The internet is certainly not the most private place.

An interesting sstory but I would have to agree, conspiricy theory is a bit of a thin claim. Google and any internet search engine for that matter of course have a bigger agenda in mind at their inception but as long as the information going around isn't really directly affecting people I really don't see what the big deal is. Unless your researching something a little askew to begin wiht I am pretty sure that most agencies out there could care less about your interests in whatever you type into the google bar.
ReplyDeleteyou know this is so interesting because google is truly slowly taking over the internet completely. They have phones now that are made with their operating system and the only way to use those phones are to sign into them with a gmail. Your emails, contacts, calendar, tasks, reminders, are all through google. Its like what can you do without google?
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting. People asked the same question when the Windows OS was invented. You really couldn't have done anything on a computer without Windows in the early days and then Apple came along.
