I stumbled across this group of GREENPEACE advertisements. They are currently displayed in the Copenhagen airport. A number of world leaders, including Obama, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy, are depicted sending words of remorse eleven years down the road. These advertisements were created in order to enforce world leaders to, "secure a fair, ambitious and binding deal at the Copenhagen Climate Summit."
Wow. Those are some pretty powerful adverts. I like 'em, but I wonder what Obama thinks. Haha.
ReplyDeleteThese advertisements are rather interesting. I mean world leaders are probably trying their best to help the environment, but these advertisement make it seem like they are doing close to nothing. Is this really the way that GREENPEACE should go about doing things?
ReplyDeleteThose are really interesting images! It is definitely a powerful way to go about bringing attention to environmental concerns, but at the same time,I don't necessarily think that they are completely accurate. It seems like there is more awareness being brought to the issue, it just seems to take time to make substantial changes.
ReplyDeletePersonally I find it a little silly that folks are looking towards making real enviromental changes that will have quick measure results in the next few years. The fact is that it took us a long time to get where we are ad it's no short process to change the world over being more harmonious with our envirmoment. One lasting problem that has been occuring is that the leaders that we are looking to to make the changes have a shelflife themselves. Yeah sure they can promise to make changes over ten years or whatever but, at least from the American perspective, they are not going to be in office long enough to make this sort of thing come to fruition. Changes of the sort that they talk aout at world convensions require the commitment to go against a system that is place that is keeping things the same way or on the same track. In the middle of an economic downturn how concerned do you think leaders are to change a system that generates revenue for the counrty? Fortunately there are some entrepeneurs that are taking to task green industry while there is really no where to go but up. Let's al just hope that they are the real success stories in the next decade.
